Dbarta24 Health Desk — Three more patients exhibiting measles symptoms have died across the country in the past 24 hours, further underscoring the severity of the ongoing public health challenge in Bangladesh.
During the same period, 876 individuals developed new measles symptoms, while 64 additional cases were laboratory-confirmed.
The latest figures were released on Friday in a routine updates report issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Rising Toll and Total Caseload
According to official health records maintained since March 15 this year, a total of 829 children have died after presenting with clinical symptoms of measles. Additionally, 99 children have been confirmed to have died directly from the virus.
This brings the total casualty count—combining both confirmed cases and symptomatic deaths—to 928.
Epidemiological tracking indicates that the cumulative number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases has reached 18,208 following the addition of the 64 newly diagnosed patients in the last 24 hours.
Symptoms, Hospitalizations, and Recovery Rates
The broader spread of the illness remains substantial. With 876 new symptomatic cases recorded in the past day, the total number of individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with measles since March 15 has surged to 1,47,591.
Despite the high transmission rate, healthcare facilities have managed a heavy volume of patients:
-
Total Hospital Admissions: 1,28,225 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since mid-March.
-
Recoveries: 1,24,558 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged after receiving medical treatment.
Health authorities continue to monitor regional hospitals and urge caregivers to seek immediate medical intervention at the onset of fever and characteristic skin rashes in young children.
