Desk Report: Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has arrived in New York to participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Local time in New York on Sunday (September 17th) at 10:42 PM (Bangladesh time Monday 8:42 AM), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her delegation landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport on a British Airways flight.
At the airport, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mohammad Abdul Muhith, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States, Mohammad Imran, greeted the Prime Minister with flowers.
Before this, the Prime Minister and her entourage had landed in London on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight at 9:05 PM (Bangladesh time). After a four-hour layover at Heathrow Airport, Prime Minister Hasina continued her journey to New York.
On Sunday morning after 10 AM, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital, bidding farewell to members of the Cabinet, chiefs of the armed forces, secretaries, and senior officials.
In addition to attending the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be staying in New York until September 22nd. On the first day of the high-level segment of the General Assembly on September 22nd, she will address the assembly between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM local time.
In a press conference last Thursday, Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen stated that during her speech at the General Debate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would highlight Bangladesh’s remarkable progress in development, inclusive economic growth, and achievements in health, alongside global issues such as Rohingya crisis, climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and international peace and security.
Alongside her participation in the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to engage in several bilateral and multilateral meetings on issues ranging from Rohingya crisis to climate change, SDGs, and public health.
On Monday, she is expected to deliver a keynote speech at a high-level conference titled “Thinking for Food – Accelerating SDG2 through Innovation in Food Supply Chains” organized by UNIDO and the Rockefeller Center in New York. Prime Minister Hasina is expected to return to Bangladesh on October 4th.
