Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ODI series begins today

Sports Desk: Despite losing the T20 series 2-1, Bangladesh’s performance in ODIs has been comparatively better. From 2015 to 2022, Bangladesh has consistently shown remarkable performance in ODIs every year.

However, in 2023, their ODI form dipped. In the previous year, out of 32 ODIs played, Bangladesh won 11 matches. While their success rate in T20 format has been higher in recent times, with 10 victories out of 14 matches last year.

Starting this new year with a loss in the T20 series against Sri Lanka indicates a challenging journey ahead for the Tigers in ODIs.

In the first ODI today at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong, Bangladesh will aim to regain their momentum. Their performance will be crucial, especially after a lackluster year in ODIs.

The combination of players might see some changes, although major overhauls are unlikely. Mahmudullah Riyad, who missed the last ODI series against New Zealand, might make a comeback. Captain Shanto hinted at potential changes but refrained from disclosing specifics.

For the first ODI, Bangladesh’s probable XI could include Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Shariful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Tanjid Hasan Sakib.
