Sports Desk: The Bangladesh National Football Team is set to make history by playing an international friendly against San Marino on June 5. This FIFA Tier-1 match will take place in San Marino, marking the first time Bangladesh will play an official international match on European soil.
While the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) claims this is their first-ever match against a European nation, records suggest otherwise.
In 2001, Bangladesh played against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Yugoslavia in the Millennium Super Soccer Cup.
Additionally, Bangladesh faced arch-rivals India in a friendly match in Leicester, England, back in 2000.
San Marino, currently ranked 211th in the FIFA rankings, is nestled within Italy and is the world’s fifth-smallest nation.
Although they are ranked 30 places below Bangladesh (181st), the BFF believes this tour will provide invaluable experience for the players ahead of future Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
