Hatibandha (Lalmonirhat) Correspondent – A 25-year-old Bangladeshi youth, identified as Khadimul Islam, was shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Amjhol border in Hatibandha Upazila, Lalmonirhat.
The incident occurred near international border pillar no. 906 late Wednesday night.
The deceased, Khadimul, was the son of Amzad Hossain, a resident of Purba Amjhol village in the upazila.
Abdul Mannan, the in-charge of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Banchowki camp, confirmed the incident to the media.
According to BGB and local eyewitnesses, Khadimul and several others went to the border river to catch fish around 8:00 PM yesterday.
During this time, a patrol team from the Indian Paglimari BSF camp opened fire on them. Khadimul sustained critical bullet wounds and tragically passed away while being rushed to Rangpur for medical treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatibandha Police Station, Ramzan Ali, stated that the victim had a gunshot wound to his head.
The body is currently being held at the BGB Banchowki camp and will be sent to the Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
