Brahmanbaria Correspondent | dbarta24.com – Two Bangladeshi nationals were shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria.
The incident occurred late Friday (May 8) night at the Pathariadwar border area under Gopinathpur Union of the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Morshalin, a second-year HSC student of Gopinathpur Shah Alam Degree College and son of Hebju Miah of Dhajnagar village, and Nabir Hossain (40), a resident of Madhupur village.
According to family sources, both bodies are currently being held at the GB Hospital in Agartala, India.
Several other Bangladeshi youths were reportedly injured in the same incident. While their identities have not been officially confirmed, sources suggest they have been taken to Cumilla for medical treatment.
What Happened at the Border?
Local and family sources stated that a group of smugglers allegedly called Morshalin out of his house and took him to the Pathariadwar border area. Nabir Hossain and several others were also present near the border at the time.
BSF personnel opened fire on the group, killing Morshalin on the spot. His body was then taken into Indian territory.
Nabir Hossain, who was injured in the shooting, was also taken by the BSF and later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
BGB’s Statement
Lieutenant Colonel Shariful Islam, Commander of the 60th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed the deaths. He noted that preliminary information suggests both individuals were involved in smuggling activities.
“BGB is currently in communication with the BSF to facilitate the handover of the bodies back to Bangladesh,” the Commander added.
