Local Correspondent, Bhola: In Tajumuddin upazila of Bhola, a man was held captive and tortured overnight while his wife was gang-raped after the perpetrators demanded money.

The victim’s husband filed a case at Tajumuddin Police Station on Monday (June 30) afternoon, naming seven individuals and 4-5 unidentified suspects.

Among the accused in the gang rape case are Mohammad Farid, joint general secretary of the local Sramik Dal, and his associate Mohammad Alauddin.

Meanwhile, the victim was admitted to Bhola 250-bed General Hospital on Monday night for a medical examination.

The victim’s husband alleged that on Saturday night (June 28), his third wife called him to her home in Chandpur Union of Tajumuddin.

While eating dinner, four men suddenly entered the house and began brutally beating him with pipes in front of his wife. Later, more people joined, demanding Tk 4.5 lakh in exchange for divorcing his third wife.

Around 1 AM, the assailants forced him to call his first wife to bring the money. When she failed to arrive that night, the torture continued until Sunday morning.

After she arrived without the money, she was also assaulted. At one point, the husband was forced to go to the market under the pretext of having tea.

During his absence, the Sramik Dal’s leader Mohammad Farid, along with his associate Mohammad Alauddin and others, allegedly gang-raped his first wife.

When the husband returned after 40 minutes, the door was locked. The accused later opened it and fled. The wife then disclosed the gang rape to her husband.

The accused allegedly threatened the couple over the phone to prevent them from reporting the crime. The couple later returned to their village in Shambhupur Union, where the wife reportedly attempted suicide multiple times.

That night, they called the national emergency helpline 999 and, with police assistance, went to Tajumuddin Police Station. After recording their statements, police filed a case and took the victim to Bhola General Hospital for a medical checkup.

Dr. Aminul Islam, a medical officer at the hospital, confirmed that the victim was admitted around 9:30 PM on Monday for examination.

Tajumuddin Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohabbat Khan stated that the husband filed a case naming seven individuals, while 4-5 others remain unidentified.

The third wife, who allegedly aided the accused, has been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to detain the remaining suspects. Police also said, further investigation continued.
