Health Desk: In the last 24 hours, 11 people have succumbed to dengue fever across the country, bringing the total death toll from dengue this year to 778. Additionally, within the same time frame, 2,663 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals.
This information was reported by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room in their dengue update on Thursday (September 14th).
According to the Health Department, from Wednesday morning (September 13th) at 8 a.m. until Thursday morning at 8 a.m., a total of 2,663 dengue patients were admitted to various government and private hospitals in the country.
Among them, 900 are residents of Dhaka, and 1,763 are from outside Dhaka. Among the 11 fatalities, six were residents of Dhaka, and five were from outside Dhaka.
Since January 1st of this year up to September 14th, a total of 159,835 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue fever. Among them, 70,660 have been hospitalized in various hospitals in the capital, Dhaka, while 89,175 have been admitted to hospitals outside Dhaka.
During the same period, 149,144 dengue patients have received discharge certificates from hospitals. Among them, 66,051 were residents of Dhaka, and 83,093 were from outside Dhaka.
In 2022, dengue claimed the highest number of lives in the country’s history, with 281 fatalities. In the last month of that year, December, 27 deaths occurred due to dengue. During the same year, 623,382 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue fever.
Although dengue transmission was not as widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the year 2021 saw a resurgence of dengue cases in the country, with 28,429 reported cases and 105 deaths nationwide.
