National Report: The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, ASM Maksud Kamal, has opined that unplanned urbanization is one of the reasons for the spread of diseases like dengue.
Dr. Maksud gave this opinion in a speech as the chief guest at a seminar on ‘Dengue Mosquito Prevention’ organized jointly by the Zoology Department of Dhaka University and the Bangladesh Zoological Society at Mahmud Al Amin Auditorium on Thursday (August 17).
Professor Maksud said that people do not want to go to the hospital until they reach a coma due to dengue disease. Apart from this, the hospital also does not have enough storage capacity.
Therefore, to control dengue, it is not only necessary to increase medical facilities, but public awareness is also needed.
Unplanned urbanization is one of the reasons for the spread of diseases like dengue. Bangladesh is undergoing urbanization, so we need to focus on planned urbanization.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor said that in the developed world the knowledge of dengue disease is reserved for research. Our health department does not store enough information about dengue disease and patients.
However, for the first time this year, the health department is saving data on dengue patients, which is commendable. He thanked the people for organizing the seminar to raise awareness about the spread of dengue disease.
