Labonnya Liza ; Dhaka — To enhance passenger service, the Dhaka Metro Rail has extended its operation hours by 20 minutes from both ends starting today, Sunday (June 7).
Under the new schedule, the last train from Motijheel to Uttara will depart at 10:30 PM, while the final train from Uttara to Motijheel will leave at 9:50 PM.
According to the new timetable, the final metro rail from Motijheel bound for Uttara will leave at 10:30 PM, moving from the previous departure time of 10:10 PM.
On the other side, the last train from Uttara North station heading toward Motijheel will depart at 9:50 PM, which was previously scheduled at 9:30 PM.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the operator of the metro rail, stated that the new schedule has been implemented after conducting trials for the past month to evaluate extending night services. Initially, one additional trip will be operated in each direction during the extended 20-minute window.
Authorities stated that there are plans to further extend the metro rail’s operational hours in the future, depending on passenger demand and operational capacity. Currently, 297 trips are operated daily, and the new schedule will slightly increase the total number of trips.
The country’s first metro rail officially began its journey in the capital city, Dhaka, on December 28, 2022. Initially, train operations started on a limited scale on the Uttara North to Agargaon section of MRT Line-6. Subsequently, new stations were opened in phases, expanding the scope of the service.
