Crime Report: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will work to compile a list of street children involved in drug consumption and sale in the capital.
Instructions have been given to the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of DMPs in this regard. After preparing the list, the concerned officials of DMP will also take care to take initiative for their rehabilitation through social service department and various NGOs.
As a result of such initiatives, the DMP believes that it will be possible to keep children involved in criminal activities under surveillance.
Sources associated with the DMP say that there has been an increase in the cases of theft, robbery and dacoity in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police area.
Drug addicts are getting involved in these criminal activities. Furthermore, a group is using drug addicts for profit. According to sources, the work of making the list is going on. These responsibilities have been given to the concerned officers including officers in-charge of 50 police stations of DMP.
The issues of drug involvement of street children in charge of the police station area are also being probed. Officials say movement of street children can be seen around various roads, lanes, footpaths and foot bridges in the capital. Something filled with polythene is breathed by keeping it in the mouth, which is called Dendy. Of these, Dendy is the largest consumer.
Apart from this, there are also ganja and other intoxicants. They unite in different groups and consume Dendy or gum, causing much suffering to the townspeople along the way.
DMP sources also said that special attention is being paid to ensure that nobody creates any kind of undesirable situation by using street children in the context of the 12th National Assembly elections.
If rehabilitation is done after the list making process, it will be easier to bring the street children out of drug addiction. This will reduce crime to a great extent.
