Eight More Deaths from Measles and Symptoms Across the Country

Health Desk | April 16, 2026 – The measles situation in Bangladesh has taken a grimmer turn as eight more people died from the disease and related symptoms in the last 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), two of these deaths were confirmed measles cases, while the remaining six died with symptoms associated with the virus.

The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the DGHS released this updated data on Thursday afternoon.

According to official statistics, at least 34 people have died from confirmed measles since March 15. During the same period, the number of suspected measles-related deaths has reached 172.

The report further noted that since mid-March, there have been 3,065 confirmed cases of measles across the country, while the number of suspected cases has surged to 20,352.

So far, 13,129 patients have been hospitalized with measles symptoms, with 10,496 of them receiving clearance to return home after treatment. Health experts urge citizens to remain vigilant and ensure children are vaccinated to curb the outbreak.
