Fake Arms Sale Racket Exposed: DB Arrests Two for Scamming Millions via Facebook

DB Cyber Crime Unit officers arresting suspects involved in online fraud scam.
Darta24 Report — The Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has dismantled a fraudulent online arms-selling ring, arresting two key suspects accused of embezzling millions of takas from unsuspecting buyers through fake social media advertisements.

The arrestees have been identified as Md. Akash Sheikh (23) and Ruman Sheikh (24).

Police apprehended the duo during targeted raids conducted on Monday night in the Dhonda and Raghunathpur areas under Narail Sadar Upazila.

According to DB sources, the syndicate operated by promoting fake advertisements and video clips offering firearms for sale on Facebook.

Interested buyers were instructed to move conversations to WhatsApp to finalize deals.

Once negotiation took place over WhatsApp, the scammers convinced buyers to transfer advance payments via mobile financial services.

However, immediately after receiving the funds, the fraudsters would block the buyer’s phone number and social media accounts, cutting off all communication and vanishing with the money.

The illegal operation came to light during routine online surveillance by the DB Cyber Crime Monitoring Team.

On August 23, officers detected a Facebook page named “Sonali Pistol House Benapole” actively advertising weapons.

Utilizing advanced digital tracking and forensic technology, law enforcement identified the physical location of the page administrators. This intelligence led to the coordinated overnight raid in Narail.

During the drive, officers seized four mobile phones directly linked to the scam.

Preliminary interrogations confirmed both suspects’ active involvement in the fraudulent network.

A case has been officially filed against Akash and Ruman at the Ramna Model Police Station under the Cyber Security Act. Following their arrest, the duo was presented before the court.

DB officials emphasized that investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the syndicate and bring all associates to justice.
