Foreign Desk: US President Joe Biden is coming to India to attend the G20 summit. The White House said on Tuesday (22 August) that the US President would visit India from 7 to 10 September.
On Wednesday, the Indian media, Indian Express, reported from the White House that Biden would attend the G-20 (Group of Twenty) summit in India to discuss various global challenges, including the Ukraine conflict, with other world leaders.
The White House said in a statement that President Biden would also praise Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership at the G20.
The G-20 summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on 9 and 10 September. This year’s summit is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of world leaders. India takes over the managership of the G20 from Indonesia in December 2022.
White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said in a statement that President Biden and the G20 leaders will discuss a variety of joint efforts to address global issues, including the transition to clean energy and the fight against climate change, reducing economic and social impacts. Reduction includes the Ukraine conflict.
The official said that besides increasing the capacity of multilateral development banks including the World Bank, the issue of dealing with the challenges related to poverty will also be discussed. In an additional meeting with world leaders at the summit, Joe Biden will highlight climate change, the Ukraine war and other global challenges.
