Heatwave Grips 40 Districts across Bangladesh; Public Life Disrupted

Online Desk – Capital city Dhaka and several other districts have not seen any rain for the last few days. Due to scorching sunshine and rising temperatures, intense heat is prevailing everywhere across the country.

As a result, normal public life has been completely disrupted. There is no relief indoors or outdoors. Low-income and day laborers are suffering the most in this extreme weather.

Their income has also dropped significantly as fewer people are venturing out onto the streets. Animals are also gasping for breath in the suffocating heat.

On Tuesday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) announced that a mild heatwave is sweeping over 40 districts, including Dhaka, and it is likely to continue.

However, the department also noted that there is a possibility of rain or thunderstorms in several parts of four divisions, alongside heavy downpours in three divisions.

According to the weather office, the mild heatwave is currently passing over Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur, and Laxmipur districts, as well as the entire Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal divisions. Both day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged over the next 24 hours.

Regarding rainfall, the Met Office stated that an extension of western low pressure lies from West Bengal to the North Bay of Bengal. The Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance as far as the Teknaf coast within the next 72 hours.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain or temporary gusty/squally winds and thunderstorms are likely to occur in a few places across the Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and one or two places in the Dhaka division.

Additionally, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur in parts of the Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Elsewhere in the country, the weather will remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.

Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours, the country’s highest temperature was recorded in Khulna at 38 degrees Celsius, while the highest rainfall was recorded in Cumilla at 54 millimeters.
