Khairul Alam: Air pollution levels have reached their peak in Jerusalem, Israel, with the city topping the list of the most polluted cities. However, from the perspective of air pollution alone, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, ranks ninth.
This information comes from the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the monitoring agency, which was reported on Wednesday, September 13, at 9:05 AM.
At the top of the list is Jerusalem, with an air quality score of 304, indicating that the air there is in a hazardous condition.
In second place is Doha, Qatar, with a score of 170, signifying unhealthy air quality in the city.
The third position goes to Jakarta, Indonesia, with a score of 157, also indicating unhealthy air conditions in the city.
Dhaka’s ranking is ninth, with an air pollution score of 119, which is particularly concerning for individuals with asthma or respiratory illnesses.
Air quality is categorized as follows: a score between 0 and 50 is considered good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate or acceptable, 101 to 150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151 to 200 is unhealthy, and above 200 is very unhealthy or hazardous.
It’s essential to take measures to reduce air pollution in these cities and improve the health and well-being of their residents.
