Staff Report: Leaders of the United Sanatan Jagaran Jote have announced plans to stage a long march towards jail if the bail plea of Principal Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari is denied on Wednesday.
They also declared their intention to launch a united nationwide movement, instead of sporadic protests, and voluntarily submit to arrest if necessary.
This statement was made at an emergency press conference held on Tuesday night at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital.
At the press conference, Prasenjit Halder, a representative of the United Sanatan Jagaran Jote, said that a group of criminals and extremists attacked their rally on Monday, leaving 30 supporters injured. Two female supporters were also assaulted during the attack.
He further explained that Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the organization, was in Dhaka and was taken from the airport by plainclothes officers claiming to be from the Detective Branch (DB) as he was about to head back to Chattogram.
Upon hearing this, the supporters went to the DB office on Mintu Road, where they sought information about his arrest, but the officials were unable to provide any details.
Prasenjit added that the supporters then staged a peaceful protest at Shahbagh, but the demonstration was violently attacked by a group of extremists and criminals armed with weapons.
The attack took place in the presence of police forces, which he described as a regrettable incident.
