Dbarta24 Report – Bangladesh is facing a severe health challenge as eight more individuals succumbed to suspected measles symptoms over a 24-hour period, pushing the total mortality toll associated with the disease past 1,000.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest casualties were recorded between Sunday morning and Monday morning, emphasizing an urgent need for heightened public health intervention and awareness across the country.

Data released by the DGHS highlights a continued surge in infections. Over the same 24-hour window, 1,232 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were identified. Out of these daily cases:

  • Suspected Cases: 1,177 patients were reported with symptoms.
  • Confirmed Cases: 55 cases were officially confirmed through laboratory testing.
  • 24-Hour Casualties: All 8 recent deaths were due to suspected measles symptoms; no confirmed measles deaths were recorded in this specific timeframe.
The current tracking period, which began on March 15, paints a stark picture of the ongoing epidemic’s impact, particularly on young children:

Metric March 15 to Present Count
Total Deaths (Combined) 1,030
Deaths from Suspected Symptoms 930
Deaths from Confirmed Measles 100
Total Symptomatic Cases 172,720
Total Confirmed Measles Cases 20,124
Total Hospital Admissions 152,117
Recovered & Discharged Patients 146,400
Analysis and Outlook
While the recovery rate remains relatively strong—with over 146,000 patients successfully discharged after treatment—the sheer volume of hospital admissions (exceeding 152,000) is placing a heavy strain on healthcare facilities.
Health experts emphasize that early diagnosis, timely hospitalization, and expanding vaccination coverage are critical to halting the transmission chain and reducing child mortality associated with measles complications.
