Health Desk — Bangladesh is facing a severe healthcare challenge as the total number of deaths from measles and related symptoms has surpassed 700.

According to the latest daily report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Friday, four more individuals died with measles-like symptoms over the last 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 702 since mid-March.

While no new deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded in the past 24 hours, the rapid rise in symptomatic fatalities highlights the growing intensity of the outbreak.

Out of the 702 total deaths recorded since March 15, 609 individuals passed away exhibiting severe symptoms of the disease, while 93 deaths have been officially confirmed as measles.

The crisis is geographically widespread, with the four latest symptomatic deaths reported across four different divisions: Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, and Mymensingh.

Key Data and Outbreak Scale

The DGHS report, which compiles data from 8:00 AM Thursday to 8:00 AM Friday, indicates that healthcare facilities nationwide are experiencing a heavy influx of patients.

Public health experts emphasize that measles is highly contagious and can lead to severe complications, particularly in children and malnourished individuals.

The high volume of hospital admissions underscores the urgent need for heightened public awareness, enhanced surveillance, and accelerated vaccination drives across the most affected divisions to curb further transmission.
