Sports Desk | April 16, 2026 – Bangladesh is set to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series starting tomorrow, Friday, at 11:00 AM.
As every series now carries immense weight for direct qualification in the upcoming ODI World Cup, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraj emphasized a “match-by-match” approach rather than looking too far ahead.
Speaking at the pre-series press conference on Thursday, Miraj highlighted the importance of a positive start. “The beginning is crucial. We shouldn’t set the end target right away.
Since it’s a three-match series, the first game is the most important. Our goal is to play good cricket and secure a win in the opener,” Miraj stated.
While this New Zealand squad is missing several regular starters, Miraj is far from complacent. “There is no room to underestimate New Zealand.
As professional players, every match is vital for us. We will give our maximum effort to get the results in our favor.
If we can win the series, it will be a massive achievement, especially considering the ICC rankings,” he added.
Addressing the recent administrative changes within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)—which has seen three presidents in the last 18 months—Miraj assured that off-field issues haven’t distracted the team.
“We have had excellent practice sessions over the last three weeks. As professionals, what happens outside doesn’t affect us.
Our job is to perform, and I don’t think anyone has been thinking about the board’s situation during our preparations,” Miraj concluded.
