Stolen 70kg Brass Bell Recovered Near Trash Bin in Mohammadpur Church Heist

Dbarta24 Report — Police have successfully recovered a 70-kilogram brass bell stolen from St. Paul’s School & Church in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

The heavy artifact was found abandoned inside a white polythene bag beside a waste dumpster on Zakir Hossain Road around 2:50 AM on Friday, following an intensive police operation.

The theft took place in the early hours of Thursday, September 30, from an open second-floor area of the church, located in front of the WASA building on Asad Avenue.

Upon being alerted at 4:35 AM that morning, law enforcement visited the scene and launched a coordinated search operation involving multiple specialized police teams to retrieve the stolen property and apprehend the culprits.

“Faced with relentless police raids and surveillance, the thieves were forced to abandon the stolen bell and flee,” said Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Halim.

Investigators revealed a suspicious detail regarding the incident: the church’s CCTV camera recording system had been manually disabled or turned off starting from 12:03 AM on the night of the theft.

Police are treating the CCTV tampering as a critical lead. In addition to auditing the internal camera system, authorities are analyzing security footage from surrounding commercial establishments and leveraging local informant networks to identify the perpetrators.

The recovered brass bell remains intact in police custody, and targeted drives are ongoing to arrest those involved in the heist.
