Former Appellate Division Justice AKM Asaduzzaman Appointed New ACC Chairman

Former Supreme Court Justice AKM Asaduzzaman appointed as the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)
Dbarta24 Report — Former Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice AKM Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for a five-year term.

Joining him on the anti-graft watchdog’s executive leadership are Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan, who have been appointed as commissioners.

The Cabinet Division officially issued a gazette notification on Monday (August 17), confirming the appointments under Section 6(1) and Section 5(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

Under the statutory framework, Chairman Justice Asaduzzaman will hold the status, compensation, and privileges equivalent to a judge of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.

Meanwhile, Commissioners Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr. Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan will hold privileges equivalent to judges of the High Court Division.

A Distinguished Judicial Career

Born on March 1, 1959, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Rajshahi University. He began his legal journey in 1983 as a district court advocate before enrolling in the High Court Division in 1985 and the Appellate Division in 2001.

His elevation to the bench began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division on August 27, 2003, subsequently becoming a permanent judge two years later in 2005.

After decades of distinguished service in the judiciary, he retired as an Appellate Division Justice on February 28, 2026.

Transition and Selection Process

The top leadership reshuffle follows the collective resignation of former ACC Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen alongside Commissioners Miya Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid on March 3, 2026.

To fill the leadership void, the government constituted a search committee on June 22, headed by Appellate Division Justice Md. Rezaul Huq. The panel was tasked with evaluating potential candidates and recommending a shortlist of two nominees for each vacant commissioner role to the President.

Under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, the body functions through a three-member commissioner panel, with one serving as the chairman for a mandatory five-year tenure.

With the complete reconstitution of its top leadership, the commission is expected to resume its full executive operations, signaling a fresh chapter in the nation’s ongoing anti-corruption drives and regulatory oversight.
