Nico corruption: Khaleda Zia’s plea was rejected, the case will continue

Court Report: The High Court has dismissed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s plea challenging the legality of framing of charges in the NAICO corruption case.

Consequently, the lawyers said that there was no obstruction in the NAICO case against Khaleda Zia in the judicial court.

On Wednesday (30 August) The High Court bench passed the order. Earlier on May 17, advocate Kaisar Kamal had made this request on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

After this, the hearing of the case started on 9 August. After a partial hearing, the court ordered to fix the date of the next hearing of the case.

On 9 December 2007, the ACC filed a case against Khaleda Zia and five people on charges of causing huge financial losses to the state and causing corruption through an opaque contract with the Canadian company Niko.

It is alleged in the case that the defendants have caused a loss of about Tk13 thousand 777 crore to the state by handing over the three gas fields to the Canadian company Nico by showing them abandoned.

On 5 May 2008, the ACC filed a charge sheet in the court against Khaleda Zia and 11 others in the case. The defendants were accused of causing financial loss to the state.

On March 19 this year, the court framed charges against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the defendants in the NAICO corruption case.
