Security Tightened in Tungipara Ahead of August 15; 5 BGB Platoons Deployed in Gopalganj

Security forces maintaining vigilance near Bangabandhu's mausoleum in Tungipara, Gopalganj ahead of August 15.
TUNGIPARA (GOPALGANJ) Correspondent; Dbarta24 — Local authorities in Gopalganj have instituted high-level security measures across Tungipara to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents surrounding August 15.
 
Additional police, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel, and five platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been stationed throughout the district.

Security operations have been centered primarily around the mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, major roadways, government buildings, and public gathering points.
 
Enhanced intelligence surveillance and continuous Detective Branch (DB) police patrols are also actively operating across the upazila.

Strict Surveillance at Key Points

A visit to the area revealed a multi-layered security setup at all three entry routes leading to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mausoleum, managed by police, APBn, and plainclothes security personnel.
 
Strategic checkpoints have also been set up at major transport hubs and intersections, including the Patgati Bus Stand and Chowrangi areas.

To reinforce public safety, a joint security march was conducted at approximately 6:00 PM on Friday.
 
Led by Gopalganj District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman alongside Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Habibullah, the patrol team comprised members from the Police, RAB, BGB, and APBn.

The joint patrol unit covered key district routes before moving through Tungipara’s Patgati Bus Stand, College Road, and Chowrangi area, concluding near the mausoleum premises before returning to the district headquarters.

Official Statements and Analysis

Local authorities assured the public that these measures are purely preventive aimed at preserving the existing peace in the region.

“Gopalganj is a peaceful district. No violent incidents have been recorded here since August 1,” stated Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah. “We hope no untoward situation will occur tomorrow either. However, to ensure that the overall law and order situation does not deteriorate, security forces, including the BGB, will remain on high alert.”
Echoing the SP’s statement, Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman highlighted the deployment of border guards to assist civil authorities.

“Five platoons of BGB have been deployed to ensure that the law and order situation in the district does not decline surrounding August 15,” said DC Md. Arif-uz-Zaman. “BGB troops have already begun patrolling and are actively assisting in keeping the situation normal.”
With joint forces conducting routine patrols, enhanced intelligence monitoring, and multi-tier checkpoints at key venues, authorities in Gopalganj remain vigilant to ensure peaceful operations throughout the district.
