Senator Rick Scott’s letter to the US Embassy to inquire about the case against Nazmus Shakib

Desk Report: Senator Rick Scott of the state of Florida has written to the US Embassy in Dhaka asking to know about the case filed under the Digital Security Act against Canada-based Nagorik TV news chief Nazmus Shakib.

The US Embassy in Dhaka responded to Senator Rick Scott’s letter on July 26. The letter, signed by Consul General Nathan de Flock of the embassy, states that the US government has concerns about various sections of the Digital Security Act.

The letter also said that Ambassador Peter Haas and other senior officials have already continued to communicate with stakeholders about these concerns.

Besides, the letter also suggested that if Nazmus Saqib wants, he can take the help of the lawyers mentioned on the website of the US Embassy.

Rick Scott (70), a resident of Naples, Florida, USA, is a businessman and Republican politician. He has been serving as Florida Senator since 2019. Rick Scott was the 45th governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019.

Chittagong’s Rangunia Upazila Jubo League Forest and Environment Secretary Md. Ariful Islam filed a case under the Digital Security Act against Najmus Saqib, the news chief of Nagrik TV and his associates at Chackbazar police station in Chittagong.
