Sweden to increase police powers to stop Al Quran burning

Foreign Desk: The Swedish government has decided to increase the power of the police by amending the law to prevent Quran burning. And if there is an amendment in the law, then the matter of taking permission for any protest meeting and procession  on will completely depend on the decision of the police.

In a press conference in the capital Stockholm on Friday (August 19), the country’s Justice Minister said that the country’s internal and international dissatisfaction has been expressed over several recent incidents of Quran burning.

Furthermore, various threats are coming, which make Sweden’s national security position vulnerable. Meanwhile, various political parties of Sweden are considering this initiative of the government as ‘kneeling’ in front of the Islamic world.

The pro-government Sweden Democrats are also on the list. Sweden ranks high among the liberal countries of the world. Open criticism of any ideology, including religion, has been allowed in the country for a long time.

However, on June 28 this year, an Iraqi immigrant named Salwan Momika set fire to a copy of the Holy Quran outside the main mosque in Stockholm. The whole Muslim world got angry due to this incident.

In that incident, the Swedish government was severely criticized for not taking any action against those who insulted the Quran. The Muslim world claims that this incident is an attack on their faith.
