Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria Arrives in Dhaka on a Four-Day Visit

Diplomatic Correspondent: Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria has arrived in Bangladesh for a four-day trip as the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) goodwill ambassador.

Crown Princess Victoria arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning. A staff member from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed her arrival in Dhaka.

Upon her arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Crown Princess Victoria was welcomed by Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud.

Sweden’s appointed Ambassador to Bangladesh, Bangladesh’s appointed Ambassador to Sweden, and the UNDP’s Chief Representative in Dhaka were also present at the time.

The Minister for International Development Cooperation and Deputy Foreign Minister of Sweden, Johan Forssell, accompanied Victoria on her visit to Dhaka.

During her visit, the Swedish Crown Princess will explore various aspects of sustainable development, climate change, gender equality, environmental conservation, digital transformation, and the role of the private sector in SDG implementation.

In a UNDP press release, it was announced that Princess Victoria and her delegation would meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

They will also hold discussions with senior government officials, young students and entrepreneurs, business leaders, and representatives from various UN agencies.

During her visit to Bangladesh, Princess Victoria is scheduled to visit the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and witness the relocation of Rohingyas to Bhasan Char. She will also visit the Sundarbans-adjacent remote upazila of Koyra in Khulna.

According to the Swedish Embassy and UNDP sources in Dhaka, this is Princess Victoria’s first visit to Bangladesh since being appointed as UNDP’s goodwill ambassador in 2023. Prior to this, she visited Bangladesh in 2005.
