Tamim Iqbal Appointed Head of BCB Ad-Hoc Committee Amid Legal Turmoil

Khairul Alam ; Dhaka: In a dramatic turn of events, the National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the elected board of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), citing irregularities in the previous elections.

Former national captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the head of a newly formed 11-member ad-hoc committee.

This committee, which includes family members of several influential BNP leaders and former cricketers like Athar Ali Khan and Minhajul Abedin, has been tasked with organizing fresh elections within the next three months.

The NSC’s decision follows an investigation report alleging that the previous election, held on October 6, 2025, was marred by “unreasonable intervention” from former Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud and “e-voting manipulation” by the then-president Aminul Islam.

It’s a “constitutional coup”

However, the transition is far from smooth. Outgoing president Aminul Islam has vehemently rejected the NSC’s move, labeling it a “constitutional coup” and “politically motivated vengeance.”

Claiming he remains the only legitimate president of the BCB, Aminul has called for ICC intervention, citing the global body’s strict policy against government interference.

Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal took charge at the BCB headquarters yesterday, stating his primary goal is to restore the reputation of Bangladesh cricket.
