Khairul Alam ; Dhaka – Former national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Just a year after retiring from professional cricket, Tamim secured the highest number of votes in the club category and was subsequently elected president by the unanimous vote of the newly formed 25-member board of directors.
The elections have shaped a new 25-member board that will guide Bangladesh cricket’s policy for the next four years. This new committee consists of 12 directors from clubs, 10 from districts and divisions, one from a government institution, and two nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC).
Key Board Formations and Votes
Out of 74 possible votes in the club category, Tamim Iqbal secured a staggering 73 votes. Fahim Sinha, a councilor from the Abahani Club and a director of the Acme Group, was elected as the sole vice-president with 66 votes. Tamim stated that a second vice-president might be appointed later if deemed necessary.
Israfil Khosru (councilor of Exium Club and son of Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury) and Said Ibrahim Ahmed (Fair Fighters Club councilor and son of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed) jointly secured the second-highest total with 72 votes each. Both were members of the previous ad-hoc committee.
Massuduzzaman, a veteran sports organizer representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, became a BCB director for the first time by securing 70 votes.
Returning and New Faces
Mirza Yasir Mohammad Faisal (68 votes) and Shaniyan Tanim (66 votes), who had resigned from the former Aminul Islam-led board, managed to retain their director positions. Rafiqul Islam also retained his post with 53 votes.
The club category also welcomed fresh faces, including Asif Rabbani (Shinepukur Cricket Club), Yasir Abbas (Azad Sporting), Sakif Ahmed (Purbachal Cricket Club), and Dr. Mahbub Ahmed Shamim (Dhaka Wanderers).
Regional and Divisional Directors
In the district and divisional category, seven directors were elected uncontested. Meanwhile, in the contested seats:

Barishal Division: Mizanur Rahman, owner of the BPL franchise Fortune Barishal, won the seat by defeating Bhola’s counselor Muntasir Alam.

Khulna Division: BNP leader Shafiqul Alam and Shantanu Islam (brother of State Minister for Power & Energy Anindya Islam) clinched the two available director posts.
Among those elected uncontested from regional quotas were Said Bin Zaman (Dhaka), Abdullah Al Fuad (Dhaka), former national captain and chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu (Chattogram), and Moin Uddin Chowdhury (Chattogram).
Other notable political and structural figures entering the board include Faysal Amin (Rangpur, brother of LGRD Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir) and Mir Shakrul Alam (Rajshahi).
Institutional and NSC Nominations
Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, an experienced sports organizer, was elected uncontested under Category-3. Additionally, the National Sports Council (NSC) nominated two directors: businessman Sheikh Mohammad Ruhul Amin and Sarfaraz Ahmed, the coordinator of the Arafat Rahman Koko Trust.
