Muyabia Labony;Dhaka: As the month of Chaitra draws to a close, Bangladesh is bracing for a rise in temperatures just before the Bengali New Year.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), rain is expected to decrease across the central and western regions, including Dhaka, leading to a noticeable heat increase.

A Turbulent Chaitra Ends

The month of Chaitra has been characterized by volatile weather. From Kalbaishakhi storms and hailstorms to a brief heatwave affecting 27 districts—including Jessore, Chuadanga, and Faridpur—the transition into summer has been intense. While recent storms brought temporary relief, the weather is now shifting toward a drier, hotter pattern.

Forecast for the Coming Days

Meteorologists predict that from today through Monday (April 13), the likelihood of Kalbaishakhi storms across most of the country is low. While isolated rain or thunder may occur in parts of Rangpur, Sylhet, and Mymensingh, the rest of the country will remain predominantly dry.

Consequently, day and night temperatures are expected to rise by 1–2°C across the board.

Hot Start to the New Year

Meteorologist Dr. Omar Faruq told reporters that while scattered rain might occur in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, and Mymensingh on Pohela Boishakh (New Year’s Day), western districts like Jessore and Chuadanga are likely to see temperatures soaring to 36°C or higher.

As of early Saturday morning, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 17.5°C in Tetulia, Panchagarh, while the capital, Dhaka, recorded 21.5°C.
