Entertainment Desk – The legal woes for South Indian superstar and politician Thalapathy Vijay seem to be mounting. Already dealing with the recent piracy leak of his latest film in high definition, the actor-turned-politician has now been booked by the Chennai Police for allegedly violating election rules during a massive campaign event.

According to reports, Vijay—the chief of the political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)—is accused of holding an unauthorized roadshow in several busy areas of Chennai. While police had reportedly granted permission for a program at a specific location, Vijay allegedly led a massive procession through T Nagar, Thousand Lights, and Egmore.

The unexpected rally drew thousands of supporters onto the streets, causing severe traffic congestion across the city’s major thoroughfares. Based on a complaint from an Election Commission flying squad, the police filed the case under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for defying official orders.

Multiple cases have been registered at various police stations, including West Mambalam, Nungambakkam, and Vepery, naming both Vijay and several top leaders of the TVK.

This controversy comes just days before the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections scheduled for April 23, 2026, adding a layer of political tension to the high-stakes race.

Quick Fact: The case involves Section 223 of the BNS, which pertains to “disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant.” As the election date of April 23 nears, all eyes are on how this legal hurdle will impact the TVK’s debut performance.
