News Desk – The Tamil Nadu Assembly election results have delivered a major political shock as actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerges as a formidable new force.
Preliminary vote counts on Monday (May 4) suggest that Vijay is successfully breaking the decades-long duopoly of the DMK and AIADMK.
The Kishor Strategy
Political analysts credit the unexpected surge to the strategic brilliance of Bihar’s famed election strategist, Prashant Kishor. Reports indicate that Kishor predicted this shift over a year ago. During TVK’s anniversary celebrations in Mahabalipuram in February 2025, Kishor confidently stated his ambition to become a popular figure in Tamil Nadu through strategic success.
In a lighthearted comparison to cricketer MS Dhoni, Kishor had remarked, “I have to be the most popular Bihari in Tamil Nadu. Dhoni is popular because he wins for CSK. Next year, when I help you win, I will surpass even him in popularity”.
Targeting the Floating Voters
Kishor’s core strategy focused on a specific demographic: the 15 to 20 percent of voters who were disillusioned with the state’s traditional two-party system. By consolidating these floating voters, TVK managed to disrupt the DMK’s established vote bank, particularly among urban youth.
A Bold Independent Stand
Choosing not to join any major alliance, TVK contested all 234 seats independently. The party’s focus on employment, education, and a “drug-free Tamil Nadu” resonated deeply with the electorate.
Analysts believe that Kishor’s “15-20% equation” has now become a reality, adding another significant victory to the strategist’s record.
