Washington D.C. / Tehran: In a dramatic last-minute development, U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to postpone the pre-announced large-scale bombing and military strikes on Iran for at least two weeks. The announcement came just moments before the expiration of the set deadline.

However, this temporary ceasefire comes with a strict condition. President Trump stated that the suspension would only remain effective if Iran immediately and “completely and safely” reopens the Strait of Hormuz—a vital international waterway—for commercial shipping.

The Role of Pakistan’s Mediation

This breakthrough followed an 11th-hour special proposal from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump confirmed that he agreed to the delay following a special request from PM Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

Conditions and the 10-Point Proposal

Trump wrote that a “mutual ceasefire” is being established between the two sides. The primary condition remains the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement further noted, “We have made this decision based on the request of the Pakistani government and a 10-point proposal received from the Iranian side. We believe this proposal can serve as a viable basis for further negotiations.”
