Local Correspondent,Cumilla: A woman in Muradnagar Upazila, Cumilla, was allegedly raped and then abused in her home. A 51-second video of the incident went viral on Facebook on Saturday night.
Police arrested three individuals involved in spreading the video. Their identities haven’t been released yet. The victim had filed a rape case with the police on Friday.
The video shows 10-12 young men beating the woman while she screams. Police stated that no one reported the abuse before the video went viral.
The incident occurred on Thursday night in Ramchandrapur Dakkhin Union of the upazila. The victim filed a rape case against a man named Fajor Ali (38) at Muradnagar Police Station. Fajor Ali has been on the run since the incident, and police are continuing their efforts to apprehend him.
According to the victim’s complaint, her parents were not home on the night of the incident. At that time, Fajor Ali came to her house and asked her to open the door.
When she refused, he broke down the door, entered, and raped her. Her screams attracted neighbors who then caught Fajor Ali, beat him, and recorded the incident. The woman was later rescued.
The victim is reportedly from the Hindu minority community.
According to the case statement, the accused Fajor Ali is the son of Shahid Mia from Baherchar Pachkitta village.
The Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidur Rahman said, “The victim’s medical examination has been completed. Two police teams are in the field to arrest the accused. We hope to arrest him soon.”
The OC also added, “Spreading the video on social media is a legal offense. We are investigating the source of that video. Everyone involved in the abuse of the woman will be identified and brought under the law.”
Meanwhile, police arrested three people for recording and spreading the video of the woman’s abuse on social media. District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan announced on Saturday night in a statement that legal action will be taken against them.
