Women are dying more from dengue

Health Report: Director of Health Department (MIS) Prof. Dr. Shahadat Hussain said that men are more affected by dengue than women. Although men are more commonly affected, more women die from dengue than men.

He gave this information on Sunday (August 20) afternoon in a virtual briefing organized by the Health Department regarding the dengue situation in the country.

This year, the two municipal corporations of Dhaka had the highest number of dengue cases between weeks 29-30. After that, dengue patients started decreasing in Dhaka.

However, the maximum number of infected people was seen outside Dhaka in 31-32 weeks.

Any ‘epidemic’ starts at a particular time, and ends at a particular place. However, it is not clear where the dengue wave will stop this year. Dhaka has over 2,600 dedicated beds for dengue patients.

What is worrying, however, is that even though men are ahead of the victims, more women are dying. If we look at the figures of dengue deaths in the last one week, 33 males have died, as against 46 females.
