4 More Children Die of Measles Symptoms in Bangladesh

Health Desk; DHAKA – Four more children have died after showing symptoms of measles, as the outbreak continues to spread across the country.

According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Friday, 1,285 new cases involving measles or its symptoms were recorded during the same period.

The DGHS confirmed that of the four recent deaths, two were reported in the Dhaka division and two in the Silicon-rich Sylhet division.

These latest fatalities bring the total death toll from measles symptoms to 231 since March 15. Additionally, 49 children have been officially confirmed to have died from measles during this timeframe.

Data from the health department indicates that between March 15 and this Friday, a total of 26,100 children were admitted to hospitals nationwide with measles symptoms. Of these, 22,650 have recovered and been discharged.

In the last 24 hours alone, 115 new laboratory-confirmed cases of measles were identified.

Furthermore, 1,170 other children exhibited symptoms of the disease. This brings the total number of symptomatic cases to 38,301 and confirmed infections to 5,146 since the outbreak monitoring began in mid-March.
