Bay of Bengal Low Pressure Prompts Local Cautionary Signal 3 Across All Maritime Ports

Dbarta24 Desk — The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has directed all four maritime ports in the country to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

Maritime authorities have advised squall-prone coastal operations and deep-sea vessels to exercise heightened caution as atmospheric instability rises across the coastline.

The alert applies directly to the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.

Under the influence of the low-pressure system situated over the Northwest Bay and its adjoining areas, squally weather is likely to impact maritime hubs, the North Bay, and adjoining coastal belts.

“A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions,” stated meteorologist Abdul Hamid Mia. “Under its influence, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist across the country, including Dhaka, for the next three to four days.

However, intermittent showers along the coastal belt may offer temporary relief.”

All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been instructed to remain close to the coast and navigate with extreme caution until further notice.

According to the regular BMD weather bulletin, the axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and central Bangladesh to Assam.

The Southwest monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.

Under these meteorological conditions:

  • Widespread Rain: Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely across most places in Barishal, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
  • Scattered Showers: A few areas across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions will experience intermittent precipitation.
  • Heavy Rainfall Alerts: Isolated pockets nationwide may see moderately heavy downpours.
Despite the forecasted rainfall, high humidity levels across inland regions will sustain sweltering conditions over the coming days, keeping daytime discomfort high across the majority of the country.
