Low-Pressure System Forms in Bay: Bangladesh Maritime Ports Raised to Alert Signal 3

Special Correspondent — The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a localized warning, advising all maritime ports across the country to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 following the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather alert, published on Wednesday (July 15), warns of potential squally weather affecting the coastal regions.

According to the official BMD bulletin, the low-pressure area has developed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal stretches of North Odisha and West Bengal.

Under its influence, steep pressure gradients may cause squally winds to blow over the maritime ports, the North Bay, and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.

  • Port Warnings: The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been strictly instructed to keep Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted.

  • Safety Measures for Fishermen: All fishing boats, trawlers, and marine vessels operating in the deep reaches of the North Bay of Bengal have been advised to navigate with extreme caution and remain close to the coastline until further notice.

As atmospheric conditions remain unstable over the Bay of Bengal, coastal administrations are monitoring the system closely.

Authorities urge all maritime stakeholders to strictly adhere to the safety guidelines to prevent any untoward incidents at sea.
