Dbarta24 Health Desk — Six more patients presenting with measles symptoms have died across Bangladesh over a 24-hour period, bringing the national death toll from confirmed and suspected cases of the infectious disease to 1,134 this year, health authorities confirmed Tuesday.
According to the latest daily bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) covering the 24 hours from 8:00 AM Monday to 8:00 AM Tuesday, two deaths were recorded in Dhaka, two in Chittagong, one in Barisal, and one in Khulna. No patient with lab-confirmed measles died during this specific period.
Outbreak Scale and Daily Surge
Since tracking began on April 10, the total number of individuals showing measles symptoms across the country has reached 199,013, with 1,291 new suspected cases recorded in the last 24 hours alone. Laboratory testing additionally confirmed 102 new measles cases during the same timeframe, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed infections since April 10 to 21,910.
A breakdown of the overall mortality data reveals that 1,032 people have succumbed to suspected measles symptoms, while 102 fatalities have been definitively confirmed through laboratory diagnosis.
Regional Distribution and Hotspots
Dhaka Division remains the hardest-hit region in the country, registering the highest cumulative death toll with 468 deaths linked to measles symptoms.
