BCB Forms Three-Member Election Commission for Upcoming Polls
Khairul Alam; Dhaka – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially formed a three-member Election Commission to oversee its upcoming Board of Directors election.
Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, Ahsanul Karim, has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). The other two members of the commission are Md. Israil Howlader, Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and A.B.M. Ehsanul Mamun, Deputy Secretary and Director (Planning and Development) of the National Sports Council (NSC).
The BCB announced the formation of the commission in a press release on Wednesday, stating that the body will supervise all legal procedures and logistical arrangements for the 2026 Board of Directors election.
Background of the Election
The path to this election began on April 7, when the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul following investigations into widespread electoral irregularities. An ad-hoc committee, headed by Tamim Iqbal, was formed on the same day.
According to the BCB constitution, an ad-hoc committee must hold elections within three months of its formation.
What’s Next?
The newly formed commission is expected to announce the detailed election schedule within the next few days. Current BCB President Tamim Iqbal previously hinted that the polls are likely to be held in the second week of June, confirming that he will also be contesting for a position on the board.
