France Announces World Cup Squad: Mbappe to Lead, Key Names Excluded
Sports Desk: France has officially announced a 26-member final squad for the upcoming World Cup to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Head coach Didier Deschamps, who is set to step down from his position following the tournament, has avoided major surprises in his selections while maintaining a balance of youth and experience.
Stars and Veterans
Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe will captain the side. He is joined by the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembele. The squad also features several 2018 World Cup winners, including midfield engine N’Golo Kante and defender Lucas Hernandez.
Notable Exclusions
Despite rumors of a potential return, Antoine Griezmann remains in retirement and was not included. The biggest surprise, however, is the exclusion of Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Additionally, forward Randal Kolo Muani failed to secure a spot in the final list.
The Road Ahead
France has been placed in Group I, where they will face Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. The “Les Bleus” will begin their World Cup campaign on June 16 against Senegal.
