Dengue Deaths Near 400 Mark in Bangladesh

Health Report, Dhaka: A total of 399 people have now died from dengue fever in Bangladesh this year, with three new fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.

The new deaths bring the total number of dengue-related deaths to nearly 400, as the nation continues to battle a surge in cases caused by the Aedes mosquito.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a statement issued on the night of November 15, the three new deaths include one from Dhaka South City Corporation, one from the Chittagong Division, and one from the Mymensingh Division.

In addition, 474 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalizations for the year to 77,601.

The latest cases span several divisions, with the highest number of hospitalizations occurring in the capital, Dhaka, where 207 people were admitted, including those from both the Dhaka North and South City Corporations.

Other regions with notable admissions include Chittagong Division (61 cases), Khulna Division (56), Rajshahi Division (66), and Mymensingh Division (20), among others.

From January 1 to October 30, 2024, a total of 77,601 people have been hospitalized for dengue across Bangladesh, with 63.1% of patients being male and 36.9% female.

Among the 399 deaths, 50.4% were women and 49.6% were men.

The ongoing dengue outbreak continues to raise concerns as public health authorities work to contain the spread of the disease.
